The J & J Story...
J&J Wholesale is the success story of Jim and Janet Carpenter that began on May 1st, 1977 with “a vision, a prayer, hope, faith and very little money.” Jim and Janet took their faith in God, added some good old fashioned sweat equity and spent the next 7 years of their lives forming the company that would employ more than a dozen employees in two stores 31 years later. These 31 years have seen their share of upsets that would include first, the loss of Janet to cancer (Aug. 4, 1984), a devastating fire, and two hurricanes that threatened to flood and blow the store away. However, the faith that founded J&J has carried it through these hard times creating a stronger belief that success is not measured in short terms, but rather in the long haul.
Jim’s philosophy is to “do all that you can for the customer, sell a good product, treat them with respect, be honest and straight forward and they will come back to do business again.” Armed with this same philosophy J&J formed its second store in 1991 located in Clinton, NC under the management of Frankie Jackson. With the same group of employees for nearly 10 years J&J Clinton has worked to carry out the philosophy that made J&J Wholesale a success in Dunn, NC.
Today J&J Wholesale is seeing the culmination of Jim and Janet’s dream as the company continues to expand under the leadership of their son Jason. Jason began working for J&J in 1990 doing many of the same things that his father had done at the beginning such as sweeping the floor and driving a delivery truck. Jason was promoted to Vice President in 1996 and together Jim and Jason have worked to keep J&J headed in the same direction that it was pointed in 1977. If you come by J&J you might not find Jim, but you can feel his presence as each employee works to make J&J the same customer oriented business that has kept us open through floods, fires, deaths and economic woes. Jim Carpenter is quick to thank the Lord, his customers and his employees for the many successes that J&J has seen over the years.
